Seven employees at Atascadero State Hospital were hurt in aggressive incidents with patients so far this year, according to preliminary reports from the facility.
The attacks resulted in employees suffering scratches, bruises and muscle strains on Jan. 14; a cut to the head and back pain on Jan. 11; hand and arm injuries on Jan. 4; and a minor scrape to the forehead on Jan. 2.
All the incidents involved nursing employees, which could be a nurse or a psychiatric technician. A police officer was also injured in the Jan. 14 incident.
Staff names are not released, and job titles remain general in attack reports to protect the identity of employees, officials said.
Violent acts by patients are not uncommon ASH, a psychiatric facility for men who have committed or are accused of crimes.
Each preliminary report will be investigated further by the hospital, spokesman Craig Dacus said.
