Proudly serving California's Psychiatric Technicians
CAPT serves as the professional association for the approximately 14,000 licensed California Psychiatric Technicians, who are uniquely trained to care for people of all ages with developmental disabilities or mental illnesses. With its highest-in-the-nation educational, licensure and regulatory requirements, California serves as the nation's "gold standard" for Psychiatric Technicians and related direct-care nursing professionals.
In its capacity as the California Psych Techs' professional organization, CAPT advocates on scope-of-practice, educational, ethical, recruitment and regulatory issues in a variety of arenas and serves as the profession's liaison with our regulatory board, the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.
Created in 1985 by five California Psychiatric Technicians who believed in a complete by-Psych-Techs-for-Psych-Techs organization, CAPT is proud to be entrusted with their vision and to carry their professional dedication into the future.
