CAPT Member Lessie Moore (SPT-PSH) appointed to BVNPT
Psych Techs seats are filled
On October 28, Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed CAPT candidate Lessie D. Moore to the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. Lessie’s board position does not require Senate confirmation. She will fill a vacated seat that opens in July 2023 and will then be reappointed for a four-year term.
Lessie began her Psych Tech career in 1993 at the Fairview Developmental Center. In 1996, Lessie transferred to Patton State Hospital, where she was promoted to SPT in 2010. Lessie earned her BSS from Ashford University in 2011 and has worked as an Adjunct Psychiatric Technician Instructor at San Bernadino Valley College since 2020.
A CAPT member since 1998, Lessie has served the Patton Chapter in multiple roles and offices. Lessie was elected to the office of chapter secretary in 2000, where she served four terms, and in 2014, to the office of vice president, where she served three terms. Lessie is currently acting as the chapter’s chief job steward.
Lessie’s accomplished career demonstrates a keen awareness of our unique profession, the people we serve, and the challenges we face on the job. CAPT is pleased to have Lessie sit on our licensing agency’s board of directors. Her appointment fills an important board seat reserved for a representative of the Psychiatric Technician profession, for which Lessie is undoubtedly qualified.
There are nine seats on the BVNPT; two are occupied by PTs, two by LVNs, and five by public members. The board’s makeup is designed to bring fairness and equity in policy decisions affecting the consumers, educators, and licensees.
Lessie’s appointment marks the second CAPT member appointment made by Newsom.
As the professional organization of Psychiatric Technicians, CAPT has the leadership and resources to watch and weigh in on the board’s regulatory and licensing activities.
Because of CAPT’s relationship with the governor’s office, CAPT is called upon for PT appointment recommendations and input. CAPT’s leadership takes this role seriously and is happy to congratulate SPT Lessie Moore as she navigates her new role as a BVNPT member. May she continue to serve the consumers well in her new capacity while upholding the integrity of the PT profession.
