CAPT lifts the red tag off CIW
CAPT’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the lifting of its official sanction against the California Institute for Women (CIW), Chino, and again encourages job applicants at the facility.
The red tag status, issued at the CAPT Board’s December 2022 meeting, served as a warning to potential employees about serious contract violations and poor labor practices at CIW. This marked the ninth red tag issued by CAPT on a facility, underscoring the gravity of the concerns raised.
The sanction on CIW was initially imposed due to management’s disregard of two grievances brought forward by CAPT regarding contract violations concerning the delayed Post and Bid and Vacation Scheduling processes. Management’s unilateral action to postpone these essential procedures was viewed as an attempt to avoid addressing necessary shift changes and to pressure CAPT into accepting proposed MAR PIP positions. The red tag sanction persisted in response to ongoing egregious labor practices.
Fortunately, two years later, CIW has made positive steps forward, indicating a willingness to engage CAPT constructively in resolving work-related disputes. As CIW moves forward, CAPT remains vigilant in its oversight, ensuring that the rights and welfare of its members are protected and upheld.
