BVNPT does not have the right to access your entire personnel file
As you know, the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) exercises its regulatory authority in part by investigating complaints against Psychiatric Technicians. CAPT provides representation to Psychiatric Technicians who find themselves the subject of a BVNPT investigation.
CAPT has recently learned that the BVNPT is seeking full access to Psychiatric Technicians’ personnel files. The BVNPT is seeking this access by sending authorization letters to Psych Techs who are currently under investigation. The letters request your signature approval, thereby authorizing the BVNPT to access and review your personnel file.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SIGN THIS AUTHORIZATION, NOR SHOULD YOU!
If a complaint has been filed against you, the BVNPT can only review the “paperwork” that relates specifically to the complaint. The BVNPT does not have the authority or right to review your entire official personnel file.
If you receive one of these authorization letters from the BVNPT or a telephone call from a BVNPT investigator requesting that you sign the authorization and you are not sure what to do, contact your local chapter office right away.
